Signs your dryer vent needs attention

Lint build-up in dryer ducts is a well-known cause of house fires. It’s worth checking the vent once a year, and more often if you have a big household or pets.
Dryer hookups
New dryer arriving? We’ll connect electric dryers to your existing outlet and vent, swap the cord if your new dryer didn’t come with one that matches your receptacle, level the machine and run a test cycle. We can also stack compatible washer and dryer pairs with the manufacturer’s kit. Gas dryers have to be connected by a licensed gas fitter, so if yours is gas, we’ll do the venting and leave the gas line for them.
Vent replacement and rerouting
A lot of homes still have white plastic or thin foil accordion hose behind the dryer. It crushes easily, traps lint in every ridge, and isn’t the safer choice. We replace it with rigid or semi-rigid metal duct, keep the run as short and straight as practical, and seal joints with foil tape rather than screws (screws catch lint).
If your dryer has moved, or the existing run has too many bends, we can reroute it to cut down the length. Shorter and straighter is always better.
Exterior vent covers
The exterior vent hood takes a beating from Edmonton winters. Broken flaps let in cold air, snow and sometimes birds or mice. We replace damaged hoods with louvred or guarded covers and seal around them properly so water doesn’t get into the wall. We’ll also check that the flap isn’t freezing shut, which can happen when the vent is low and gets buried in snow.

Bathroom fan covers and exterior hoods, range hood vent connections, and replacement grilles and register covers for heating vents. Bathroom fan and range hood work is limited to venting and covers where the wiring is already in place.
