Drywall Repair, Trim & Finishing in Edmonton

A good patch is the one you can't find a week later. That comes down to feathering the compound wide, sanding properly, priming, and matching the paint sheen.

Drywall, Trim & Finishing in Edmonton by Fix & Go Handyman
In short

We repair drywall in Edmonton homes, from nail pops and settlement cracks to doorknob holes and larger patches, then sand, prime and touch up the paint. We also install and repair baseboards, casing and trim. Best results come from bundling patches into one visit since compound needs drying time between coats.

Drywall patching and repairs

  • Nail and screw pops (very common in Edmonton’s newer subdivisions as the framing dries out)
  • Hairline cracks above doors and windows
  • Doorknob holes and dents from furniture
  • Holes left from old TV mounts, shelves and anchors
  • Damaged corner bead on outside corners
  • Water-stained patches once the leak has been fixed
  • Larger holes that need a new piece of drywall cut in and backed

Why nail pops show up in winter

If your house is newer (think Windermere, Chappelle, Walker or Rosenthal), you may notice small round bumps or cracks along the drywall a year or two after you move in. That’s the framing lumber drying out and shrinking, which pushes the fasteners out. Edmonton’s very dry winter air speeds it up. The fix is to drive a new screw beside the old one to pull the board tight, set or remove the popped fastener, then mud, sand and paint. Just smearing filler over the bump doesn’t hold.

How we do it

Most patches need two or three thin coats of compound with drying time in between, then sanding, primer and paint. For a single small hole, we may use quick-setting compound to finish in one visit. For a bigger list, we’ll often do the mudding on one visit and come back for sanding and paint. That gives you a better result than rushing it.

We use drop sheets and sanders with dust collection where possible, and we vacuum up before we leave. Drywall dust gets everywhere if nobody’s careful about it.

Baseboards, trim and finishing

  • Installing new baseboards and casing, or replacing damaged sections
  • Re-nailing trim that has pulled away from the wall
  • Filling nail holes and gaps, caulking trim joints
  • Wood filler repairs on doors, frames and stair parts
  • Paint touch-ups on walls, trim and doors

Matching paint

If you have leftover paint from when the room was done, that’s ideal. If not, we can take a chip to a paint store for matching. Note that even the right colour can look different if the sheen doesn’t match, or if the existing wall has faded. For very visible spots, painting the whole wall from corner to corner is sometimes the only way to make the patch truly disappear. We’ll tell you up front if we think that’s the case.

Questions about drywall, trim & finishing

How much does drywall repair cost in Edmonton?

It depends on the size and number of patches and whether the area needs painting. A few small holes are quick; a large patch needs several coats and drying time. Text photos with something for scale (a coin or tape measure) for an accurate price.

Can you fix drywall in one visit?

Small holes and nail pops, often yes, using fast-setting compound. Larger repairs usually need a second visit for sanding and paint so the compound can dry properly.

Why do I keep getting nail pops?

In newer homes it's usually lumber shrinkage as the framing dries, made worse by dry winter air. Once we refasten the board with screws and refinish, they generally stay fixed.

Do you paint whole rooms?

We focus on touch-ups and painting around repairs. For a full room or whole-house repaint, a dedicated painter is often the better value, and we're happy to say so.
