We install and repair interior doors, door slabs and frames, bifold and closet doors, handles, deadbolts and smart locks across Edmonton. Most sticking or non-latching doors can be fixed in under an hour by adjusting hinges, strike plates or the slab itself.
Doors that stick, drag or won’t latch
This is probably the most common call we get between November and March. Edmonton’s dry winter air and the shift in the house between seasons pull frames slightly out of square. A door that closed fine in August starts rubbing at the top corner, or the latch misses the strike by a few millimetres.
Most of the time the fix is simple once you find the cause. Loose hinge screws are the number one culprit; a longer screw that bites into the framing behind the jamb often pulls the door right back into line. Other times it’s adjusting the strike plate, shimming a hinge, or taking a little off the edge of the slab and resealing it. We’ll explain what’s going on so you’re not just told “it’s fixed.”
Door installation
- Interior door slabs: replacing a damaged or dated slab in an existing frame, including mortising hinges and drilling for the handle.
- Prehung interior doors: new door and frame, set plumb and level, with casing.
- Bifold and closet doors: new installs, track replacement, and the bifold that keeps jumping off its pivot.
- Sliding closet doors and barn-style doors: tracks, rollers, guides and soft-close kits.
- Door sweeps, thresholds and weatherstripping on exterior doors, so January stays outside.
Replacing a slab in an existing frame is usually the most cost-effective way to update a room. Bring us the new door (or we can help you pick one), and we’ll fit it to your opening. Older homes in neighbourhoods like Highlands, Garneau or Westmount often have frames that aren’t square anymore, so a standard slab almost always needs trimming. That’s normal, and it’s why fitting a door is fiddlier than it looks.
Locks, handles and smart locks
We swap handles, levers, deadbolts and full entry sets from brands like Schlage, Kwikset and Weiser, and we install smart locks such as Yale, Schlage Encode or August-style retrofit units. If you’ve just bought a place, changing or rekeying the exterior locks is one of the first things worth doing, since you never really know how many keys are floating around.
With smart locks, the install is only half the job. We make sure the deadbolt throws smoothly without the motor straining (a misaligned strike is the main reason smart locks drain batteries and jam), then help you pair it with your phone before we leave.
Hinges, closers and adjustments
Sagging doors, squeaky hinges, a self-closing door between the garage and the house that doesn’t actually close, door stops that punched a hole in the drywall. All small, all quick, and usually best bundled with a few other jobs.
